Hip Implant Lawyer (Defective Stryker And Depuy Hip Implants)

If you or someone you know is suffering from complications following a hip implant surgery, now is the time to take action. The Law Offices of Michael S. Lamonsoff is here to guide you through the complex legal process and fight for the compensation you're entitled to.

Each year, thousands of Americans turn to hip replacement surgery as a solution for their chronic pain and mobility issues. Also known as hip arthroplasty, it’s a surgical procedure that involves replacing a worn-out or damaged hip joint with an artificial joint implant, also known as a prosthesis. These artificial implants are made from metal, ceramic, or plastic materials, and are designed to mimic the natural movement of a healthy hip, allowing patients to regain mobility and experience a significant reduction in pain.

Unfortunately, some of these devices fail to deliver on their promises and the patient is left in an even worse condition than before. Countless patients have come forward reporting debilitating complications as a result of faulty hip implants. These complications can range from intense pain and swelling to metal toxicity, tissue damage, and even hip dislocation. In many cases, patients are forced to undergo multiple revision surgeries, which leads to life-long health issues and emotional distress.

At the Law Offices of Michael S. Lamonsoff, we are committed to championing the rights of those who have suffered due to the negligence of medical device manufacturers. Our team of winning hip implant lawyers in New York City has a proven track record of securing significant compensation for our clients, and we won't rest until you receive the justice you deserve.

Stryker Hip Implants

Stryker is a leading medical device company that has been making hip implants for many years. But some of their implants had design issues that led to problems for patients. One of the main issues was with the "modular neck" design. This design was supposed to make it easier for surgeons to adjust the implant during surgery. But instead, it caused metallic corrosion and released toxic ions into the body.

Patients with defective Stryker implants often experience pain, swelling, and difficulty walking. In some instances, they needed another surgery to fix the problem. Because of this, Stryker had to recall thousands of their hip implants.

Many people who suffered because of these defective implants filed lawsuits against Stryker. They claimed the company knew about the problems but didn't warn patients or doctors. As of March 2023, there were still 344 ongoing legal cases regarding the brand’s faulty hip implants. In 2018, Stryker made a private agreement to settle a problem with their LFIT V40 Femoral Head hip implants. They also paid a huge amount of $2 billion in 2014 to settle issues with their Rejuvenate and ABG II hip implants. Now, lawyers are looking into problems with another Stryker product called Tritanium Acetabular Shells.

DePuy Hip Implants

DePuy is another multinational company that makes hip implants. They also had problems with some of their products (specifically, Pinnacle and Articular Surface Replacement hip implants), the main issue being the "metal-on-metal" design. This design was supposed to last longer and work better than other types of implants, however, it caused wear and tear on the components, leading to a condition called "metallosis."

Metallosis happens when tiny metal particles break off from the implant and get into the body. This can cause pain, inflammation, and even damage to the surrounding tissue. Patients with defective DePuy implants often needed another surgery to replace the faulty implant. Because of this, over 20,000 people sued DePuy, and the company had to recall many of their products. The plaintiffs in these cases have obtained around $6.2 billion so far. As of October 2022, there were still more than 600 lawsuits regarding malfunctioning DePuy hip implants.

If you think you have a defective hip implant from Stryker or DePuy, it's essential to speak to a lawyer who specializes in these cases. They can help you understand your rights and fight for the compensation you deserve.

How to Tell If You Have a Defective Hip Implant?

If you had hip replacement surgery, it's important to know the signs of a bad implant so you can get the right help if needed. If you don't know what kind of hip implant you have, ask your surgeon. If you have any of these symptoms, your implant might be defective:

  • Pain when moving your leg
  • Pain when moving in general
  • Pain at the hip implant site
  • Hip coming out of place
  • Pain in your belly and groin
  • Losing muscle because you can't move well
  • Trouble walking or standing because your hip feels unstable
  • Damage to tissue around your hip
  • Losing bone mass
  • Swelling at the hip implant site
  • Losing muscle in your leg because you can't move well

Again, if you are experiencing any of these symptoms, talk to your doctor immediately. They might do blood tests to check for metal poisoning called "metallosis." They could also do an MRI or x-ray to look for dead tissue, implant failure, or hip dislocation. After looking at all your symptoms, they will decide if your hip implant needs to be replaced.
