The Law Offices of Michael S. Lamonsoff, PLLC represents a black man who was brutally beaten and injured in a hate crime. The story appeared in both print and television media. Mr. Lamonsoff and the victim were interviewed by Cheryl Fiandaca of CBS news. Our client, Mr. Ibrahim Haroun, went into a delicatessen to buy a bottle of juice. When he questioned the owner/cashier about the expensive price of the juice, the owner became angry and belligerent. After our client paid for the drink, the owner of the deli began calling our client racial epithets. Our client protested and demanded to return the unopened drink and get his money back . He was then ushered out of the store by another patron who was concerned for his safety. After leaving the store, the owner and two others who worked in the store followed our client outside. There, they again yelled racial slurs at our client and brutally beat him with a club and stabbed him with a knife and screwdriver. Unconscious, with a fractured jaw, stab wounds, and internally hemorrhaging, he was left for dead by his assailants. A good Samaritan called the police and he was rushed to and admitted into Kings County Hospital. After being discharged, he went to the police precinct and found to his amazement that a police report was never filed. He continued going back to the precinct seeking justice. Finally, two weeks after the assault, the police finally questioned the perpetrators, the police were told by them that our client sustained his injuries as a result of a “fall” outside their store. The police told our client that if he persisted in demanding their arrest, he would be arrested as well. As a result of a parade of incredible and insensitive mistakes made by the New York City Police Department, the perpetrators of this horrible crime were not prosecuted. He then retained our firm to bring justice where justice was not served.
