Our law firm represents the family of a woman who died in a nursing home due to the home’s neglect. The victim, a woman in her late 50s, was placed in the nursing home in order to recover from certain health issues. Prior to her referral to the nursing home, she had been given a tracheotomy to help her breathing. The stoma, or opening in her windpipe, was supposed to be cleaned on a regular basis by the nursing home. Nevertheless, they failed to do this. The stoma became clogged. Notwithstanding the pleas of our client and other nursing home residents for help, nobody from the home responded. As a result, our client literally drowned in her own mucous.
