Elevator Accidents

ElevatorOwners of buildings have a duty to maintain their elevators in a safe, non hazardous condition. If they fail and someone is injured, they and/or their elevator maintenance company will be liable for the resulting injuries. Commonly, accidents can occur when an elevator fails to level properly with the floor it arrives at. As a result, someone trips and falls. It can also happen when an elevator suddenly comes to a quick and sudden stop and/or drops several floors, thus causing injury to those inside. It can also occur when the elevator doors are not “timed” properly and suddenly close on people. By far, the most hazardous accident occurs when the doors of an elevator malfunction and expose an elevator shaft to the public.

When we are retained by an elevator accident victim, our firm immediately gets to work investigating the cause of the accident.. Preservation of the accident scene is crucial. We will gather evidence including accurate inspections and photographs of the elevator or escalator, its components, and the elevator's control room. We will also get all the maintenance and repair records before they are lost or destroyed. Finally, we will retain world class and qualified experts including an engineer or other elevator experts, such as an elevator mechanic, a fire/rescue/evacuation and safety expert, a human factors engineer, and a professional building management expert. to discover the cause of the accident
